Question of the deep

Undeniably, this world in which we all find ourselves are full of daunting questions. There are some being posed to us by circumstances of life, friends, and even family members.

As rhetoric as some of them may be, I must say that they are always demanding answers to be given per time. The nature of the answer then determines the next phase of activities in one's life!

As a case study, Simon Peter, a professional fisherman as we must have been familiar with from the articles of the past few weeks (Luke 5:1-10) had toiled the whole night yet without a single catch of fish. Perhaps, he had used all the skills that he acquired from his father and elder brother, Andrew just to ensure that there was at least a single fish in his net; maybe he had even sought for fish in the deep before he came to the shore where he eventually met with Jesus Christ!

As surprising it may be, he was asked to launch into the deep. The thought in Simon Peter's mind at that moment could have been "Can I still catch fish in the deep?" – the question of the deep I will say! However, the fortunate Simon Peter replied unto Jesus, "Nevertheless at Your word, I will defy my foreknowledge of fishing; I will obey your words even though I am uncertain about it; I know you can give me a miraculous harvest of more than a single fish" (vs. 5-6 paraphrased). This miracle he got as it was recorded that the partners in the other boat had to come and give helping hands for the harvest of that night was beyond imagination!

There comes a point in everybody's life when such a question of the deep comes prodding one's mind. Will you rather say nevertheless at God's word, I will take that bold step of faith or you will find excuses for not obeying the divine word spoken to you either personally or through the mouth of God's ministers? In that case, the answer to the question of the deep will undoubtedly depend on the intimacy you have with the one who can make you gather what lies in that deep situation of life. An important item in this discussion is Faith (the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen – Hebrews 11:1).

Brethren, for you to rightly answer and respond adequately to those questions of the deep, you will need to capitalize on your relationship with the Master Jesus even as you daily build up your faith in Him and in the wonders only Him can work. He is the one that speaks and makes it good (Numbers 23:19). If He says it, he will definitely do it. Yours is to trust and obey. May the Lord grant us the power of obedience even when it seems the situation is difficult to comprehend (Amen).
